Any business owner will tell say that they want more customers. However, it is often easier to retain an existing customer than to gain a new one. What most business owners mean is that they want to sell more to their customers.
A garage owner in West Yorkshire, England told me that he wanted more customers, when he really wanted more sales. After half an hour of looking at his customer orders it was clear that he had all the information required to increase his sales...he just didn't realize it.
On another visit with a Mortgage broker in Lincolnshire, I was told that he wanted more customers. Again, after spending a bit of time looking at the existing data he had, it was clear he could generate more sales from his existing customers, again, he just didn't realize it.
